Edson Schock 9 foot skiff from 1963 book

Article By Gene Heard

I have the book by How to Build Small Boats by Edson Schock (link to amazon.com) that I bought around '63. About 3 years ago I finally got around to building a 9-1/2' skiff from it.

I made a couple of modifications and built it using partly screwed together construction and partly a stitch and glue method using Premium PL and Concrete PL, with drywall mesh for reinforcement. Worked like a CHAMP ! I curved the aft half of the sides down to take the rocker out so it would plane. It powers well, rows well and I have installed a daggerboard box and will use a windsurfer rig on it.

Painted with latex...Really handy for rescueing (sp?) RC planes from the lake ! Kinda' went with your idea, quick build, bonfire and a new one when it rots ! Fun little boat and CHEAP....Add a coat of paint now and then and it looks NEW !

Here are the photos of the skiff....9'-6" by 4'-6". I flattened out the rocker in the aft half of the hull bottom to better operate under motor. That's a 3 hp. "Cruise-N- Carry" outboard. She rows really well. All 1/4" ply except the transom. I have since added a daggerboard box, but have yet to sail her. Plan to use a windsurfer rig. Built mostly to Edson I. Schock plans, partly screwed construction, partly glued with Premium PL.
