Mark M from NJ - Shorten Mast on Sovereign 17

Note from Shorty: This is the start of Mark's quest to make a shorter mast rig for a Sovereign 18, and to make a boomless sail. Lots of great reasons to do this -- easier to lift mast, don't have to carry and mess with the boom or get conked on the head with it, less lines to mess with etc. Sure, it might not perform as good, but when you are out cruising and looking for simplicity, who cares? The easier your boat is to rig and sail, the more you will sail it.



The antenna wire thunked around inside the mast, so Mark attached some foam to it in the hopes of deadening the sound a bit.
