Lake Conroe Messabout -- Saturday September 20th, 2003
Sponsored by Tim and Shorty
At the Conroe Yacht Club, near Houston TX

About the event:
Twice a year we organize a small boat "messabout", for the purpose of just spending the day chatting about boats, and taking a few sails close to the club. Everyone is invited, it doesn't matter if you have a boat or not, all that matters is that you show up. The event is geared towards homemade boats, but all boats are welcome, and I always bring a fiberglass boat because that is what I have.

Special Event: $50 Boat Race
This is a downwind only race between boats that have been constructed with a maximum of $50 worth of materials. The boats are towed or carried to the starting line at the mouth of the cove, teathered to a boat anchored there, and all tethers are released at the same time to start the race. First one back to the beach wins the race, however there are multiple first places that are going to be recognized including artistic expression, cheapest boat, first to sink, and others. Facilities:
NO PETS! A dog was brought the first year, but since then nobody else has. Need to make sure that is clear, the yacht club strictly forbids them.
There is a club house with 2 bathrooms and a small kitchen.
Our activities will be held about 100 yards away from the clubhouse, unless there is rain. If it rains, we have the club house is reserved for our activities.

We congregate on a muddy beach just a few yards from where most people park. It is fairly private being on the far side of the property from where the yacht club activities take place. The water is protected and fairly shallow except for the dug out channel for the keel boats to get out to the lake. If you look at previous years photos you can see the layout of the cove. There are 2 concrete boat ramps near by. One of the ramps is more steep than the other, so we should be able to launch just about any boat you can trailer up here.

Hotels:
The yacht club is in the small community called Walden. If you want to stay overnight, there are motels along the I-45 highway that offer good parking and turn around space for trailers. There is also Del Lago Resort just before entering Walden.

Donate:
In previous years, Tim has been a member of the yacht club, but has since resigned. To hold the event, we pay $100 to the club, and we also purchase the food. If you would like to donate, that would be greatly apreciated. Tim is the official donation accept-er at the event.
