Next Time:
There won't be a next time for us, we have been hosting the messabout at Conroe for some time, and are going to let the torch be passed on to someone else. It is a lot of work and has turned into something bigger than what the yacht club facility can handle, and on a personal level neither Tim or I get to spend any time with people, we just run around and spend 5 minutes here and there as acting hosts. There are several others in the area starting up regular messabouts, and there are also PuddleDuckSailing.com weekend group sailing events. Tim and I are going to enjoy going to these other events and hope to see you there. The best single source to find a listing of all events in the area is at PuddleDuckSailing.com -- look for the "Event Schedule" link on the home page.

Also - I heard of another site that might be a good place to hold a messabout at Lake Livingston - it is on the south west side of the lake at the end of road 1514, there used to be a marina that went out of business about a year ago. Right next to it is supposedly a small campground that has a sandy beach. I have never been there, and the campground doesn't seem to be listed in the phone book. Possibly someone else can contact the campground and setup a deal, and create a new regular messabout.

PD-Brick Racer:
We had so much fun running the $50 race, that we wanted to do something like that again. We couldn't really do another $50 race, because all of the major design ideas were already built and the boats didn't even come close to being the same speed. Another big problem is that most of us only brought the $50 boat to the messabout, and couldn't bring a "regular" boat because the $50 one had to be trailered. We decided to make a new one design racing boat that we could build very cheap, and continue to tinker with. Something small that we could cartop, so we could bring it to the various messabout events and run a race in addition to other activities. For more information about the design [click here]

Tiki 21 Project:
Charles Nichols has one hull completed of a Tiki 21 catamaran, and more materials for further work on the boat. He is looking to create a group of people to work on it, and that group will end up owning / using it. Sort of like a co-op - this has been a very successful approach in the amateur airplane hobby.
