Viewers Choice Cardboard Boat Show 2005

Article By Shorty

Friday afternoon about 4pm-8pm, the team met up at the beach park for the Viewers Choice showing. This is a gathering where other people can come down and look at your boats. I only saw a couple more than were at the media race in the morning, which were only a few.

With just under 100 boat entered in the race, the people's choice viewing isn't that popular, and I didn't see any news trucks.

Margaret Spicer, the program director came to look at the boats and help us exhibit ours.

People mulled around...

We made the girls pose for us to take pictures.

Another team next to us had hula hoops going most of the time. They ended up being our biggest competition in the youth division. You can see their boat in the lower left corner.

Another team had a bunch of pictures of their building process on display.

I brought my daughters, and their favorite part was to play in the sand. The next weekend is a beach volleyball tournament.

As if the cardboard boat race organizers had kids or something, the sandy area was sprinkled with a bunch of cheap plastic buckets and digging toys for the kids to play with. Thanks a bunch for that little detail!
