Trophies
Everyone who competes, needs to bring a homemade trophy. If you plan to compete in 2 races (such as the world champ race, and the parent & youth race), then you need to bring 2 trophies.
All of the trophies are put together on a table, and after the race, the 1st place person picks out the trophy they want, we then put a sticker on it showing it was first place for this event. Then the 2nd place picks their trophy etc. I'll be bringing several spare trophies, if you would like to bring some spares, that would be great. Leftover trophies will be saved for next year. One common theme is to attach a rubber duck to the trophy, the website CaptainQuack.com sells a huge variety of rubber ducks
The 1st place World Champ Trophy will then be attached to the "box of boat bits", and a piece of the winning boat shall be added to it. A sliver of wood, screw, piece of line or just about anything that was on the boat during the winning race can be added. In the box are bits from previous boats that have won. The box of bits is then the champ's to protect till next year, when it will be seperated and attached to the next champion's trophy.
Additional Trophies
may be awarded (by committee vote) if the committee feels it is nescessary:
Abrahams Maneuver. - This is where a racer accidentally knocks his boat over, swamping it, and then decides to right the boat (still swamped with water) and attempt to sail it to the finish line, while hanging onto the stern transom, being dragged thru the water.
Orbital Debris - This trophy is to reflect that the sailor that has a rig which most resembles a Rube Goldberg machine, or is put together with the most recycled content.
Dave Jones - The boat which lost the most gear during the race.
U-Boat Commander - For either swamping their boat the most, or actually sinking.
*** If you have ideas for additional trophies that might be awarded, please email them in.
